Layla has completed studies in both structural engineering and architecture at the University of New South Wales, and has recently completed her PhD in timber engineering, focusing on the development of expressive timber-steel hybrid systems for tall timber structures. She has also studied overseas, attending the Seidler International Studio in Venice, hosted by IUAV Università di Venezia.
She is interested in tectonic architecture with relationship to site, climate, culture and place.
She is committed to promoting the use of mass timber and CLT in construction and has worked collaboratively with architects and builders with a holistic approach to design. Layla has also worked as a guest consultant at the University of Technology, Sydney and the University of Sydney.
